Za'atar Pure Blend by Tyme Foods
Tyme Foods' pure blend contains 30% zaatar herb (also referred to as wild thyme, Syrian or Lebanese oregano) 30% Sumac, and 30% roasted sesame seeds, and 10% unrefined Mediterranean sea salt. It is a gluten free zaatar mix. The zaatar herb is grown from seeds of wild zaatar found on the mountainous hills of Southern Lebanon and is known to produce very flavorful zaatar herb because of its high essential oil content (about 1 gram per ounce, and 4 to 40 times multiple the oil content of zaatar herbs from other regions.) The sumac and sesame are also grown in Southern Lebanon.
This is a premium classic zaatar mixture as compared to low quality commercial and common grades found elsewhere, which may contain wheat and other (often unknown!) fillings to increase volume, citric acid or other artificial substitutes in place of the Sumac, or importantly, low grade zaatar herb.
We offer this zaatar in a relatively generous eight ounce portion because we are confident you will enjoy it beyond a seasoning or spice. Try it as a dip food by dunking fresh bread or vegetable into olive oil then the Zaatar - sprinkle it on salads, soups, and sandwiches - stir it into a yogurt - knead it into dough and pastry - and experiment with its many culinary possibilities.
Currently shipping Zaatar that was manufactured (ground and mixed) in March of 2017. Best enjoyed before March 1, 2019. Store in airtight container in dry place away from heat or sunlight.
Read the great reviews, got all revved up, & had to try it. Made the chicken breasts & the potatoes immediately upon delivery and... this is not for us. The taste is reminiscent of cumin with a dash of lemon salt; neither a fave. I'll find a middle eastern type to give it to; maybe they'll like it more. Sorry for the negative review but it is what it is.
>> Doc replied about Za'atar Pure Blend by Tyme Foods: I tried... At your urging (& to be fair); a nice crusty french bread; dipped first in extra virgin imported olive oil then in Zaatar; and... bitter, not good. The bitterness is reminiscent of dried oregano. The same bread dipped in olive oil & fresh grated parmesan... delish. The quality of your product is not suspect; it appears first rate; but the flavor profile is too earthy; not for me; and frankly I see why it is uncommon here in America.
>> eatzaatar.com replied: Can’t argue you tried, with the nice crusty French bread and excellent extra virgin olive oil.. thanks again for taking the time. To us, the zaatar sprinkled on that fresh grated parmesan sounds delish also :)
First time I had Zaatar was on lamb chops at a restaurant. It was great. Then decided to order some and try it out as well. Leg of Lamb in the near future.
Overall the za'atar arrived fresh, aromatic, and flavorful. But use it quickly - or transfer to a more airtight container - as it doesn't stay fresh in the ziplock pouch for long. Would definitely order again.
I have eaten authentic za'atar from Jordan and this is such a precise duplicate. Excellent product.
I like your product very much. The only zaatar I've had that's better is that i brought from Jordan when there. Only complaint: too expensive.
I am new to Zaatar. I bought some at the Great Falls Farmers Market and I am in love with it! I put it on chicken and roasted vegetables and of course with olive oil and bread for dipping. I recently bought some as a gift - loved by all! Thank you for introducing me to this spice blend.
I can't give a fair review of this product at this point because it only arrived yesterday, so I've not yet had a chance to actually use it. However the company has already requested a product review twice so this is what they are getting!
Gave me allergic reaction
Anyone tasting food seasoned with this Za'atar wants to know what was used and where they can get some also. Very pleased with purchase!
Really good would have liked a bit more sumac. Very fresh. Excellent product.
I received my order super fast. The zaatar has the right amount of all the ingredients combined and you can tell it is fresh. The flavor is delicious and I'm very pleased with my purchase.
Tasty!...works great on just about everything..eggs, stuffed peppers, dip,salads...enjoy!
Very, very fresh and aromatic. Tried it on sprinkled on Greek pita bread with olive oil. It was delicious.
Your Zaatar is wonderful. I used it mixed with a little flour to coat chicken breasts before browning/cooking. Then I used the fond to make a light gravy with shallots and garlic, then adding juice a lemon and a couple Ttbs of water for a little reduction. Yum.
The Zaatar is excellent for all uses! I sprinkle the plain thyme and sumac in my hot tea.. It's so much easier than finding, cleaning and grinding local VA sumac, which we used to make a cold lemonade-like drink.
Absolutely excellent! I will order again.
So delicious! Can't help but have it with everything i eat!
Quickly shipped, and at a reasonable price. Love the modern world where you can get high quality Zaatar anywhere with Internet access!
A delicious balance of savory, citrus, and nutty flavors are found in this zataar. Zataar flat bread is fantastic and makes a great snack or appetizer!
This is one of the best zaatar blends I've tasted, and I've been eating zaatar since I was a kid. Very earthy and fresh taste. Make sure you pair it with a quality olive oil.
Enjoying this zaatar almost on everything. it is delicious. my kids love it as a dip and also sprinkle it on their sandwiches. I have sprinkle it on rice and soups and eggs. I love it with fresh baguette and olive oil. it has strong flavor because it is high quality with no fillings.
I've eaten zaatar since I was a kid and this brand is exceptional. It taste fresh and bold with a strong taste of thyme. Well worth it! I find myself taking pitches of this zaatar and eating it alone. Highly recommended.
This is truly by far the best Zaatar I have purchased in the US. It was very delicious and had a wonderful tangy taste. I recommend sprinkling Zaatar over spaghetti. The kids loved it and ask for it every time they eat spaghetti. I am happy that I don't have to travel far to find good Zaatar. Thank you for bringing this pure and natural zaatar and making it accessible.
So fresh and flavorful! It is the most delicious Zaatar I have ever tasted, and I have tried a lot of different Zaatar blends over the years! It is great with olive oil and naan bread and also makes for a great chicken rub! I will definitely keep a stock of this in my kitchen!
really enjoying this Zaatar. makes other "zaatar" mixes taste and smell really bad and you can't believe they call those others the same "zaatar"
